The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter America Division in 2022 reached a pivotal milestone in its history when Ivelisse Herrera was appointed as the first woman to hold the administrative position of treasurer of the Inter-American Division (IAD). This marks a significant stride towards equality within the church's leadership.

The announcement was made during the year-end executive committee meeting where more than 75 members voted to accept the retirement request of Pastor Filiberto Verduzco, the longstanding IAD treasurer. Herrera had served as the under treasurer.

Before her current appointment, Herrera served diligently as an associate treasurer and accountant, showcasing her expertise and dedication to the division's financial matters. Paul Douglas, treasurer of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, hailed Herrera's appointment as a historic moment. He expressed his delight and praised the administration for their forward-thinking decision. Douglas emphasized the significance of carrying this recommendation to the General Conference Committee, acknowledging its importance in advancing God's work within the division.

This landmark decision not only recognizes Herrera's competence but also signifies the church's commitment to embracing diversity and fostering an environment where women can excel in positions of leadership. As the Adventist Church continues its journey forward, this move sets a precedent for further inclusion and progression, reinforcing the belief that all individuals, irrespective of gender, contribute significantly to the church's mission.

Ivelisse Herrera's groundbreaking appointment as the first woman to hold the position of treasurer within the Inter-American Division (IAD) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church serves as a powerful catalyst for opening doors to other women aspiring for leadership roles within the Church.

Herrera's success demonstrates that both men and women when giving their skills and talents to God can be led into influential positions within the Church. This paves the way for every member to aspire to similar leadership positions within the Adventist Church. We trust that Herrera's visibility and success in her role can serve as an inspiration and role model for other women within the Church. Her journey, from her years of service in various capacities within the IAD Office to her achievement as treasurer, provides a roadmap for aspiring female leaders, showcasing the steps and dedication required to reach such positions.

We encourage all to be motivated to give their best to God. Who knows your talents and contributions can be called upon the the Leader of this Church, Almighty God, for his glory within the Church community.
